More About Tom

Brought up in New England by a beatnik publisher and activist librarian, Tom’s love of words, stories and covered bridges was nurtured from a young age. His earliest memories are his father’s pirate voices while reading Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island.” Tom’s parents raised him on New York City theater, starting — at the appropriate age of five — with "The Madness of King George III” which is probably why friends’ parents noticed the epic sagas of his Lego world citizens were more “complex” than other children. Hanging out with his (much) older brother, a founding member of the Beastie Boys, shaped Tom’s love for music, while their family “discussions” during lively games of “cut throat Hearts” and “extreme croquet” engendered a fondness for spirited debate. Tom would channel this competitive energy into athletics, leading the varsity division I track & field and cross-country teams at the University of Miami while earning his degree as a double major in History and Communication. Moving to Los Angeles in pursuit of a career in entertainment, Tom worked a number of years producing unscripted TV by day and reading scripts for production companies by night before receiving his MFA from the University of Southern California’s prestigious John Wells Writing for Screen and Television program and focus on his writing.

“There is no real ending. It’s just the place where you stop the story.”

— Frank Herbert —
